China
In October 2008, we spent nearly 3 weeks on a guided trip through China. We first visited Hong Kong and felt like we were in the lap of luxury in this modern, but condensed city. Upon entering China, we were quickly stunned by the basic accommodations....but the area of Lijiang, with the UNESCO Heritage Site, the Jade Garden Snow Mountain (complete with altitude sickness at 15,000ft) and the trip through the Tiger Leaping Gorge was simply amazing.
After more altitude sickness in the ethnic Tibetan village of Shangri La, we headed for an out of this world 4 day cruise along the Yangzi River, through the Three Gorges.
The Three Gorges Trip was worth the trip alone, but it did mean something of a post-cruise low as we made our way to Xian and the Terracotta warriors.
Beijing was our last stop, ad although were struck down with a bug for the three days, it wasn't enough to stop us enjoying the Great Wall, the Forbidden Palace and the Olympic Park.
Our 747 home, though, was a welcome sight!
